Each month, we feature one of our stellar team members on our blog. This month we’re highlighting our summer interns. Learn more about them and what they do at Singlewire.

Teddy teddy-singlewire-business-intern

Tell us about your background (hometown, school, area of study, etc.).

I am from Madison, Wis., and stayed local for college as I now attend UW-Madison. I am studying Real Estate and Economics within the business school. I am living on campus this summer but still sometimes commuting by bike to the office.

What’s your role at Singlewire? What have you been working on?

I am the business development intern at Singlewire this summer and have been working on building campaigns for the sales department as part of their direct sales initiative. I use a variety of tools including LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, and Salesforce to help create lists of contacts for our sales campaigns.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Singlewire?

My favorite part of working at Singlewire is the people and the camaraderie. I have met a lot of really nice and friendly people in the office this summer. I recently took a disappointing eighth place in the inaugural Singlewire basement putting championship but am confident I can bounce back before the summer ends.

What are your plans for the future?

My future is pretty open-ended. I plan on graduating from UW in the fall of 2022, but do not have any definitive post-grad plans. I may apply for a post-grad business program at UW but that is to be determined. In the meantime, I look forward to continuing my internship at Singlewire this fall.

Mai Houa mai-houa-singlewire-intern

Tell us about your background (hometown, school, area of study, etc.).

I grew up in Schofield, Wis. where I currently reside. It's very close to Wausau, Wis.  I graduated with a degree in Zoology and certificate in Global Health from UW Madison in 2013. My interest then was community health and I had enjoyed working with Medicaid health insurance for about six years after graduating. I wanted to do something different and got interested in programming. My brother-in-law is a software developer so when I shadowed him and talked to him about his work,  it piqued my interest to change careers. I completed a programming bootcamp back in May 2020.

What’s your role at Singlewire? What have you been working on?

I'm a software engineer intern with Singlewire. I have been working on a couple of internal tools such as the Component Registry and Client Simulator, focusing on front-end tasks. Lately, I've been working on any front-end bugs or small features to add or update on our Admin Web App.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Singlewire?

I know I haven't met everyone, but the few people I've had a chance to interact with remotely or in person are just wonderful. I truly appreciate the kindness I've received here.

What are your plans for the future?

Since I have not met everyone, I did not get a chance to share with everyone that I am expecting! This is my first. It's a girl and she is due September 30. I'll be on first-time Mama duty for the next few months. Wish me luck! During that, I will continue to pursue my journey in the programming world.

Jen jen-singlewire-intern

Tell us about your background (hometown, school, area of study, etc.).

I'm originally from Waukesha, Wis., home to this one guy who wrote a couple of pretty famous movies. I graduated with my bachelor's from UW Madison in Spring 2020 where I studied film (media studies) and theatre (props design and scenic carpentry). My last semester there, I started an associate's degree in software development from Madison College which I finish up this fall!

What’s your role at Singlewire? What have you been working on?

I am a software engineer intern. At the start of the summer, I got to dive in with the copy functionality project, and since then I've done some other work with the Admin Web App and Cirrus Rest API. Currently, we're working on a project that affects a couple of our microservices!

What’s your favorite thing about working at Singlewire?

This seems to be a theme from everyone I've talked to here, but definitely the people and the company culture. Everyone is so genuinely nice! There is such a good culture of support and learning here that benefits everybody, but as an intern, I feel like I've really lucked out by landing here.

What are your plans for the future?

My immediate future includes spending more time at Singlewire! In general, I plan on continuing to grow as a full-stack developer, but I also want to learn about how accessibility and user experience interact with software development.

Heather heather-singlewire-intern

Tell us about your background (hometown, school, area of study, etc.).

I’m from Evansville Wis., about 30 minutes south of Madison. I’m going into my senior year at Northeastern University in Boston, studying Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology.

What’s your role at Singlewire? What have you been working on?

I’m a software engineering intern. I’ve been here since January and have gotten to get my hands on a variety of aspects of our product, and most of my time has been spent on the Cloud Desktop Notifiers for Windows and Mac.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Singlewire?

The people for sure! Everyone here has been so kind and encouraging, and I learn something new every day I’m here!

What are your plans for the future?

I’ll graduate with my undergraduate degree in May, and a master's in computer science the following December. I’m hoping to work in software after graduation- but mostly I’m just hoping to get a job!

Caitlin  caitlin-singlewire-intern

Tell us about your background (hometown, school, area of study, etc.).

I graduated from Ashwaubenon High School which is located in Green Bay, Wis. This fall I will begin my fourth year at UW-Madison where I am majoring in Marketing with certificates in Digital Studies and Computer Science.

What’s your role at Singlewire? What have you been working on?

This is my second summer as the Marketing Communications Intern at Singlewire. I work on various projects with members of the marketing team mainly focusing on data lookup and entry. My time here has helped me become increasingly familiar with different marketing technologies.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Singlewire?

The company culture! Even though I’ve been working remotely for my entire time here, I’ve made great connections. Everyone I’ve worked with has been extremely helpful and encouraging.

What are your plans for the future?

I will be graduating from UW in May. Post-graduation I hope to continue working in a marketing-related role, for which I feel a lot more qualified thanks to my time at Singlewire!
