Singlewire Spotlight: Nate M [INTERVIEW]

Each month, we feature one of our stellar team members on our blog. Learn more about them and what they do at Singlewire.

How long have you been at Singlewire and what’s your position?

I have worked at Singlewire for a little over two years and work as a Quality Assurance Automation Analyst.

Please describe what you do at Singlewire.

I test the new features that we release to make sure that they actually work and don't cause customers to have headaches (hopefully). As part of that, I write and maintain automated tests to ensure that when new features are added that they do not break our existing features.

What do you like best about working at Singlewire?

Everyone is very friendly and willing to help if you need it. You can ask anyone a question and they will take time out of their day to help you out or just chat with you.

What’s been your favorite project you’ve worked on here?

My favorite thing I have worked on personally was adding automated testing for Cisco Enterprise phones. We needed a way to make sure the phones received the messages we sent them. It had quite a few moving parts and I had to learn many new things in order to get it work including how Cisco phones API works as well as using AWS. It was a challenging and very rewarding project to complete because it allowed us to automate things that before we didn’t know were possible.

What have you gained from working at Singlewire?

I have gained so many technical skills working at Singlewire. Coming into the company I had a very basic understanding of automated testing, but I’ve learned API automation, UI automation, Jenkins, Docker, Python, Groovy, Linux and so much more. All of these skills helped me grow my career tremendously.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy cooking, biking, running, hanging out with friends, and hiking. I also enjoy eating out at all the wonderful restaurants that Madison has to offer.

What’s the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Maui. I went with my family in 2015. It is such a beautiful place, the weather is amazing, and you can just lounge by the beach all day. It doesn’t get much better than that. My sister is getting married there next year and I am very excited to go back!

What was the last book you read?

I read 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It wasn’t so much a horror story like most of his books but more just a very detailed thriller. It is about a guy who finds basically a wormhole in time that comes out in the same place but during the 1960’s. So naturally, this guy tries to stop the assassination of JFK. It’s a pretty long book but I would recommend it.

Spotify, Pandora or Apple Music and why?

Spotify—Mostly because my fiancé pays for a subscription and lets me use it :)

Where’s your hometown?

I am from Stewartville, Minn., which is a small town that is about 10 minutes from Rochester, Minn. There isn’t really much to do there besides look at cornfields and go to Subway.
