Secure Safety Technology Funding

As K12 districts look for ways to enhance safety, funding has become an important question as schools find solutions they wish to implement. To help address this need, the U.S. Department of Justice through its School Violence Prevention Program is awarding up to $25 million through competitive grants to fund improvements to school security. Eligible technology includes:

  • Video surveillance technology, such as Cisco Meraki cameras and other necessary equipment
  • Communication technology, such as emergency call boxes, intercom or PA systems, panic buttons, and emergency mass notification systems
  • Emergency alerts, such as automated text messages or emails
  • Entry control equipment, such as door locking mechanisms and/or access control doors

Schools can apply between now and May 31, 2019, and full details on grant can be found on the DOJ website.

Mass notification solutions, like our InformaCast software, are eligible for the grant and can help school districts enhance safety and security efforts. This mass notification solution, along with eligible ecosystem technology such as IP phones, IP speakers, panic buttons, digital signage and more, can help increase the speed and reach of critical safety messages. With the ability to trigger and send alerts through a variety of methods and formats, InformaCast offers features that help protect students, staff, and visitors from potentially harmful situations. With this new grant, districts can now secure the funding they need to purchase and implement InformaCast and corresponding equipment in their schools. This can transform the way schools communicate, meaning responses times are much quicker, and no one misses important information.
