Singlewire Spotlight: Vince

Each month, we feature one of our stellar team members on our blog. Learn more about them and what they do at Singlewire.

How long have you been at Singlewire and what’s your position?

I’ve been a software developer with Singlewire for the last six amazing years!

Please describe what you do at Singlewire.

I’m a software developer and during my time with Singlewire, I’ve worked on nearly every part of our system including our backend services, web applications, mobile apps, etc. Lately, I’ve been focusing on the product’s ability to scale and improving performance.

What do you like best about working at Singlewire?

It is hard to describe this in words, but it is hands down the company culture and people. Singlewire deeply cares about its employees, unlike any other company I’ve worked for. I’ll just give a quick example that I think perfectly summarizes this:

My wife and I were getting married, starting new jobs, and moving to Madison, Wis., all within the same month. Nearly everyone at the company signed a card congratulating us, people sent gift cards to restaurants in the area, people sent personal emails offering to show me around the city, etc. The crazy part was this was all before I even started working for Singlewire! It was such a caring gesture and made us feel really welcomed as we moved to a new state.

What’s been your favorite project you’ve worked on here?

One of my favorite projects was also one of the more challenging projects I’ve worked on: InformaCast Fusion. We were given the challenge to merge our on-premises notification system with our mobile notification system while keeping things simple to use, fast, and reliable. We were given the freedom to research many technologies, generate prototypes, benchmark and integrate until we had the system as we wanted it. In the end, I got to work with lots of awesome people, learn tons of new technologies, and ultimately help make a widely used and loved product.

What have you gained from working at Singlewire?

I’ve learned a lot while working at Singlewire; I’ve gotten the chance to lead several projects, architect many solutions, and more. I like that I’ve always had a lot of freedom to move around within Singlewire and have been able to work on frontend projects, mobile projects, backend projects, and more. Singlewire is always open to utilizing newer technologies and supports my continued growth as a developer by allowing me to attend conferences, diligently research, prototype, and more.

Where do you see Singlewire in the next five years?

I see the company really building out the platform, enhancing performance and reliability, and ultimately continuing to be a huge player in the emergency notification space. We are constantly adding new features, new mechanisms to reach more and more people, and continuing to remain agile as the world moves into the internet of things. I’m excited for the changes to come!

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

I love cars! On the weekends I race my track car and if I’m not racing, I’m working on the car, talking cars with friends, etc. I also enjoy listening to audiobooks and going for scenic hikes.

What’s the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

So far it has to be Australia. We saw wild koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, blue penguins and more. We traveled the most beautiful parts of the great ocean road, explored Melbourne and Sydney, and so much more. An absolutely amazing trip I hope everyone gets a chance to experience.

What TV show or movie are you most ashamed to admit you love?

I’m definitely ashamed to admit that I loved the show Shameless (no pun intended). It makes me realize how great my life is and how their lives are total chaos and complete dysfunction!

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

This is a hard one, but it would have to be a tie between Indian food and deep-dish pizza. I love spices and savory flavors, and those two hit the spot!

Tell us a little about your family?

I have a beautiful wife who is a brainiac neuroscientist and two slightly crazy dogs! The rest of the family is spread mostly between Hawaii, Colorado, and Missouri. Since my wife and I were both born in Missouri, most of our families reside there.
